About Our Honoree Brent Garren Brent Garren is a Deputy General Counsel of SEIULocal 32 BJ, the 175,000- member property services local in New York and the eastern seaboard where he is actively involved in organizing drives, negotiations and arbitrations. He worked for the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union, then UNITE, UNITE HERE and Workers United prior to Local 32 BJ, including serving as General Counsel for UNITE HERE and later Workers United. Mr. Garren’s career has focused on the National Labor Relations Act. He was an Editor-In-Chief of HOW TO TAKE A CASE BEFORE THE NLRB , the leading text on NLRB procedure. He is a member of and past union co-chair of the ABA’s subcommittee on Practice and Procedure under the NLRA, part of the Labor and Employment Law Section. He has spoken at many professional conferences and testified before Congress on a wide range of NLRA-related topics. His articles include: “When the Solution Is the Problem: NLRB Remedies and Organizing Drives,” Labor Law Journal , v. 51, no. 2 (Summer 2000); “The High Road To Section 7 Rights: The Law Of Voluntary Recognition Agreements,” Engage, V. 6 , Issue 1 109 (2008) and “NLRA and RLA Jurisdiction over Airline Independent Contractors: Back on Course,” JL&EL V. 31 , N. 1 (Fall 2015). Brent has been involved in international labor solidarity activities, including representing U.S. labor to the International Labor Organization, dealing with protection of home workers
