on the Black Leadership Group of UniteHere. Sister Hunt also sits on the Black Leadership Advisory Committee of Atlantic City. In addition, Nicole has been a member of the UniteHere Local 634 bargaining team since 2008, including as the chief negotiator during the most recent round of negotiations with the Philadelphia School District when the union won increased health care coverage for over 500 Student Climate staff. Sister Hunt also strongly believes in playing a leadership role in her community. Nicole has served on the Board of Directors of the PLSE (Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity) since 2018 and also on the Steering Committee of the Black Workers Center in Philadelphia. She believes strongly that in order to bring workers out of poverty we have to organize and fight for the rights they deserve. Workers should be treated with respect and dignity no matter what position they hold. For too many years black people have had to fight to get a seat at the table. We have to learn that if there are no seats, we have to bring our own. Born and raised in North Philadelphia, Nicole saw first- hand the struggles of people of color. Opportunities are not the same for black people living in low-income neighborhoods. Nicole has been committed to change that narrative to try to bring people out of poverty and to have the confidence that they deserve the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. Nicole also believes that people should be given a second chance. People change and grow up and should not have to pay for their past mistakes for the rest of their lives. She will not stop pushing for the people of Philadelphia to come out of poverty, to not be judged by the color of their skin but for who they are.
