In Memorium - Richard L. Trumka

A champion is gone. The day of his death was sad and dark. The passing of President Trumka is a loss for the entire labor movement and for workers and their families throughout this country. It was also a very personal loss for all of us here at the Peggy Browning Fund and for so many workers’ rights activists whom he supported throughout his career.

PBF Remembers Duane Beeson

Peggy Browning Fund is saddened to share the news of the passing of our good friend Duane Beeson on Saturday, July 3 at the age of 98. Most recently Of Counsel with the firm, Beeson, Tayer & Bodine, in Oakland and Sacramento, CA, Duane was a longtime supporter and former awardee of PBF’s inaugural awards reception in San Francisco in 2012.

Advocating for Workplace Justice - Virtually

During the pandemic, PBF transitioned our Regional Workshop Programs to a virtual platform which provided us with an opportunity to offer these programs to a wider variety of panelists and student attendees than normal when the program is in-person. We worked closely with our law school contacts, student labor groups, and panelists to bring our program to law students via Zoom Meeting, where they could participate from the comfort of their living room or home office.

2020 National Conference Was Virtual

As the COVID-19 pandemic progressed earlier this year, it quickly became apparent that we would have to reconstruct all of our programs to accommodate the new reality. As our Peggy Browning Fellows and mentors began preparing for the challenges of working remotely, we also started planning to shift from in-person events to virtual ones for our Fellows’ Wrap-Up Workshop and our 22nd annual National Law Students Workers’ Rights Conference.

We are very sad to share that our good friend, George Nicolau, passed away on January 2, 2020. George received the Peggy Browning Award at our New York Awards Reception in New York City in 2011.

Bernard N. Katz, Prominent Philadelphia Labor Attorney Dies at 91

Bernard N. Katz, 91, a prominent Philadelphia lawyer who spent decades championing labor unions, died at his home in Abington, PA of natural causes in his sleep. He represented many unions in the city in the 1970s, defending workers in in the manufacturing, industrial, and trade industries. Mr. Katz was a loyal donor to the Peggy Browning Fund supporting our mission and programs. We mourn his passing.

PBF Mourns the Loss of NY Labor Leader - A Champion for Labor and Social Justice

The Peggy Browning Fund is saddened by the news of the sudden passing of Héctor J. Figueroa. He was President of SEIU 32BJ in New York City until last night and a true champion for workers' rights and social justice.
