Center for Progressive Reform (CPR)

Washington, DC

This is the 2024 fellowship description for this mentor organization. This position has been filled.

The Center for Progressive Reform (CPR) is a network of more than 60 acclaimed scholars from across the United States who work with a professional staff to improve public protections, environmental health, and workplace safety. Working with advocacy allies, we create powerful tools and strategies for policymakers and the public to advance just, equitable policies that ensure the well-being of all people, their communities, and our planet.

Founded in 2002, CPR has connected a nationwide network of scholars with policymakers and allied public interest advocates. CPR pursues a vision of legal and regulatory policies that put health, safety, and environmental protection before private interests and corporate profit. With rigorous analysis, strategic engagement in public interest campaigns, and a commitment to social welfare, CPR has supported thoughtful government action, ready public access to the courts, enhanced public participation, and freer access to information. CPR's Workers’ Rights program include federal and state safeguards for workplaces; whistleblower protections; and CPR’s groundbreaking database tracking prosecutions of employers who endanger their employees' lives at work.

CPR fellows will work with our Policy Analyst on worker's rights specific projects including forced arbitration, private right of action and other safegaurds for protecting workers. One key project the fellow with help CPR with is our Crimes Against Workers Database. Since the release of our nationwide database in 2017, CPR has continued to add new cases to the data base. The database has also continued to garner attention from the press and advocates. In November 2019, Arisha Hatch and Terri Gerstein wrote an article for the Stanford Social Innovation Review, which highlights CPR’s database as a tool used to push prosecutors to embrace a new criminal justice reform agenda

The fellow will also attend Wokers Rights coalition meetings with the analysts. We are a part of several coalitions including the Maryland Food and Farm Workers Protection Coalition. The fellow will aid our analyst in research and drafting articles, blogs, and op eds on workers' rights related issues.

Fellows will receive a stipend of $7,000 for the 10 week program.
