Gilbert & Sackman
A Law Corporation
Los Angeles, CA
This is the 2025 fellowship description for this mentor organization.
Founded in 1945, Gilbert & Sackman represents labor organizations and multiemployer trust funds, as well as employees in class action litigation centered on wage and hour and ERISA claims. We are proud to work with unions and their leaders and members as they fight to bring justice and dignity to American workplaces. We understand that we are members of teams led by workers, and we strive to bring effective and creative legal tools to that collective effort. Union lawyers work best when they understand that litigation and advice must be coordinated with direct worker power and solidarity.
As a Peggy Browning Fellow, you can expect to work closely with our attorneys in crafting legal arguments for use in judicial, administrative and arbitration proceedings and to assist in consulting with union leaders. You will gain a deeper understanding of federal and state labor and employment laws, and observe one or more proceedings in court or before the NLRB or an arbitrator.
Applicants should have strong writing and analytic skills as well as a commitment to organized labor and workers’ rights. Demonstrated interest and experience in the labor movement, including completion of labor and/or employment law courses, is preferred but not required. Gilbert & Sackman is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applicants from all backgrounds to apply. Our firm is family friendly and open to flexible work schedules.
Gilbert & Sackman will pay a weekly salary of $1,000 per week for the ten-week commitment.
In addition to the basic application requirements (cover letter, application form, essays, resume), applicants for this fellowship must also include a writing sample and a transcript (when available).
