Bush Gottlieb
Los Angeles Area (Glendale), CA
This is the fellowship description for 2025.
In 1970, young lawyers active in the student civil rights and anti-war movement founded the firm in downtown Los Angeles, determined to dedicate their practice of law to advance the cause of working people. Through the ensuing decades, the Firm's expertise has evolved with the needs of its union and trust fund clients, and remains true to its original purpose of supporting progressive social movements. For over 50 years, Bush Gottlieb, A Law Corporation, has actively litigated complex cases in federal courts and California state court, representing working people, labor unions and their trust funds. Our clients include local and international labor unions and employee benefit plans as well as employees in wage and hour class actions. We regularly file constitutional and individual employee rights cases, and also work closely with our clients on legislative matters and building economic justice coalitions. We are deeply committed to advancing organized labor and securing the rights of working people to a fair wage. We value attorneys who are eager to have major responsibility in cases from day one. Bush Gottlieb believes strongly in a diverse, family-friendly, collegial, and community-minded workforce.
As part of our overall commitment to workers' rights and the labor movement, we want to provide the opportunity for students to engage in important and meaningful work which will ideally spur further interest and dedication to workers' rights in the next generation. It is an ideal opportunity for our clients to meet and work with future leaders of the labor movement, and for the Fellow to meet important members of the labor community.
The Peggy Browning Fellow will assist with cases and arbitrations in all courts and venues, under various collective bargaining agreements. Summer fellows assist with law and motion practice, discovery and preparation before and during the action or proceeding, are involved in document review, and also have a chance to attend any hearings or settlement discussions. Our summer fellows have the opportunity to assist in administrative review and appeals. Fellows have opportunities to work with a variety of attorneys in all practice groups.
The Firm regularly purchases tables at local fundraisers for foundations and organizations dedicated to workers' and human rights, and other progressive causes. The Fellow will be invited to attend these events where they will be introduced to attorneys and other individuals involved in social activism. We also support the members of our entertainment industry clients by including fellows in outings to cultural events around the Los Angeles area. The Fellow will also be included in our weekly attorney meetings where all attorneys discuss ongoing cases and legal issues faced by our clients. The Fellow will also be invited to attend client workshops, and welcome to all seminars or local conferences attended by our attorneys.
This firm strongly prefers 2L applicants.
