International Brotherhood of Teamsters
Legal Department
Washington, DC
This is the 2025 fellowship description for this mentor organization.
The Teamsters Union is America’s largest, most diverse union. The Union is a leading force in protecting union and worker rights through organizing, contract negotiation and administration and legislation. The Teamsters are known as the champion of freight drivers and warehouse workers, but have organized workers in virtually every occupation imaginable, both professional and non-professional, private sector and public sector.
Our 1.3 million members are public defenders in Minnesota; vegetable workers in California; sanitation workers in New York; brewers in St. Louis; newspaper workers in Seattle; construction workers in Las Vegas; zookeepers in Pennsylvania; healthcare workers in Rhode Island; bakery workers in Maine; airline pilots, secretaries and police officers. Name the occupation and chances are we represent those workers somewhere. There are nearly 1,900 Teamster affiliates throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
The General Counsel's office of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is located in Washington, D.C. and provides legal counsel to Union officials and affiliated bodies. We deal with a wide variety of legal issues including traditional NLRB labor law, employment law, LMRDA, contract enforcement, and legislative and administrative law issues. A Peggy Browning Fund Fellow can expect to conduct research, draft memoranda, assist in drafting litigation pleadings and motions, assist in arbitration proceedings, and participate in education programs for union officers and members. We are looking for someone who has completed a basic labor law course and has a sincere desire to represent working people and unions.
The pay for this stipend is $25.00/hr with expected work hours of 35 per week.
