2012 National Law Students Workers' Rights Conference - Included Students From 82 Law Schools!
Thursday, November 8th, 2012
This year's annual conference attracted students from 82 law schools around the country - each looking for a community of like-minded peers and to build on their knowledge of labor and public interest law.
Held on October 12 & 13, at a new location this year - the Maritime Institute near Baltimore, Maryland, nearly 200 students and leading practitioners of labor law participated in workshops covering basic labor law, public sector labor law, immigrant workers, globilization, sports and labor law, and the use of social media.
Pre-conference sessions on Friday included a Congressional Staff Briefing on Labor Law and Policy on Capitol Hill and a panel discussion entitled Organized Labor and Worker Issues in the 2012 Election. Peggy Browning Summer Fellows attended a Wrap-Up Workshop where they reported on their fellowship experience.
Saturday's Keynote Address featured National Labor Relations Board Member Richard F. Griffin, Jr. who inspired students by noting his personal career path and offering advice on how to navigate their own for success in the field of labor law. The students appreciated his willingness stay, following his remarks, to offer personal one-on-one advice.
