An Assistant Counsel/National Field Representative position is available in the National Treasury Employees Union's (NTEU) Austin Field Office. The position offers a generous benefit package and a starting salary range of between approximately $68,040 – $180,249, depending on relevant experience. With successful performance, there are additional increases to that salary range on an ongoing basis. While travel is required, NTEU offers workplace flexibilities, such as telework. 

The Assistant Counsel serves as a liaison between NTEU local chapters and headquarters. Duties include representing NTEU and employees in arbitration and other administrative forums such as the EEOC, MSPB and FLRA. The position also entails working with chapters to build their membership and improve their operations, conducting training, and membership recruitment. A successful candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas: preparing and presenting cases for hearing; legal writing, including post¬ hearing briefs; designing and implementing internal issue organizing campaigns; participating in representational election campaigns and working with unions and/or other organizations to build their membership and improve their operations. Demonstrated experience and success in litigating cases will receive special weight given our needs at this time. A successful candidate will also have demonstrated leadership capabilities. 

In this position, the successful candidate will be assigned to specific geographic locations within the state of Texas (and some surrounding states), where we have established NTEU chapters representing federal employees in a wide variety of agencies. The successful candidate will often work with minimal supervision and will be required to not only analyze cases for potential litigation and carry a significant caseload, but equally important, work closely with assigned chapters to maximize membership growth and maintain dignity and respect in the workplace on behalf of our union members.
